Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
The rules are simple:
- Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
- Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
- Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
- Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
This week’s topic is a freebie and since I’m off to Barbados in a few days time (don’t hate me) I’ve come up with a list of books set wholly or partly in the Caribbean. Links from the title will take you to my review or the book description on Goodreads.
Sugar Money by Jane Harris – Martinique & Grenada
Fortune by Amanda Smyth – Trinidad
Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys – Jamaica
Sugar in the Blood by Andrea Stuart – Barbados
Washington Black by Esi Edugyan – Barbados
How The One-Armed Sister Sweeps Her House by Cherie Jones – Barbados
Love After Love by Ingrid Persaud – Trinidad
River Sing Me Home by Eleanor Shearer – Barbados, British Guiana (now Guyana) & Trinidad
The Tide Between Us by Olive Collins – Jamaica
Island on Fire by Sophie Schiller – Martinique
Hace a wonderful holiday – I bet you won’t have time to read much!

Barbados! That sounds lovely this time of year. Enjoy your holiday! Island on Fire sounds like it would be an interesting read.
Happy Reading!

Thanks, I love to find books set in places I’ve travelled too – or would like to travel to – especially if written by indigenous authors

Have an amazing time in Barbados! We went on a family holiday to Trinidad and Tobago about ten years ago and I remember really enjoying it.

Thank you. My husband and I got married in Barbados – in fact we’ll be celebrating our anniversary while we’re there – so it’s a very special place for me.

Lucky you! Enjoy your trip. I’ve read a couple books set in the Caribbean, but that’s it and I feel like the ones I have read are written by Americans about Americans traveling there. I need to read some Caribbean stories by Caribbean authors. Thanks for the encouragement!
Happy TTT!

Oh! Have a wonderful trip. I’m going to the US next week (family event), but I’d rather be with you on a nice, warm island.
