This annual challenge is run by my namesake Cathy at 746 Books. This year it takes place between 3rd June and 3rd September. I participated for the first time last year but didn’t manage to organise/discipline my reading enough to complete my list. I’m determined to do better this year.
As Cathy explains, the rules are simple. Take the Books of Summer image, pick your own 10, 15 or 20 books you’d like to read and link back Cathy’s master post at 746 Books on 3 June 2019 so she knows that you are taking part. The rules are accommodating as well. Want to swap a book? Go for it. Fancy changing your list half way through? No problem. Deciding to drop your goal from 20 to 15? She’s fine with that.
In putting together my list, I decided to concentrate on four categories:
- Blog tour commitments I have from June onwards
- Review copies sent to me by lovely publishers or won in giveaways run by Readers First
- Books from my TBR pile
- Unread books received in my monthly Reading In Heels subscription box
You can find my list below with links to the book description on Goodreads. I’ll update the list with links to my reviews when (note, not if) I’ve read them.
- The Playground Murders by Lesley Thomson Read and reviewed
- The Serpent’s Mark by S.W. Perry Read and reviewed
- Birdie & Jude by Phyllis H. Moore Read and reviewed
- A Modern Family by Helga Flatland Read and reviewed
- Motive X by Stefan Ahnhem Read and reviewed
- The Mathematical Bridge by Jim Kelly
- Fled by Meg Keneally Read and reviewed
- Improvement by Joan Silber
- The Dinner List by Rebecca Serle Read and reviewed
- The Narrow Land by Christine Dwyer Hickey
- Transcription by Kate Atkinson
- Blood Orange by Harriet Tyce
- In My Life by Alan Johnson Read and reviewed
- The Music Shop by Rachel Joyce
- Munich by Robert Harris
- Ponti by Sharlene Teo
- Liar by Ayelet Gundar-Goshen
- House of Beauty by Melba Escobar

Thanks so much for joining in Cathy – what a great list! You are in for a treat with Blood Orange and I can’t wait to hear what you make of Yhe Narrow Land – I really want to read it.

Thanks for hosting the challenge again. I love looking at everyone’s lists, even though it can be bad for the TBR pile….

Great, can’t wait to see it. I love putting together this kind of list…almost as much fun as the challenge itself. Oh, and I love looking at other people’s lists 😁

Good luck, Cathy! I’ve read just one of these books – Munich by Robert Harris, an absolutely fascinating book!
I’m joining in as well this year again – I’ve not managed to read all 20 in other years, but maybe this year?

Great to hear as Munich has been on my bookshelf for so long and I really want to get round to reading it.

Meant to add I managed 18 out of 20 last year but that was only with taking advantage of the facility to substitute titles from my original list, which I know is allowed but still feels like cheating a bit 😁

that’s quite the challenge! i’d really have to do some researching to come up with a list–right now i’m keeping it short. too many outdoor activities in the summer!

Some of them I need to read anyway for blog tours and I’m hoping I can combine reading with outdoor activities…if you can call sitting in the garden with a book an activity 😁

I have a Kate Atkinson on my list as well, but rather than her most recent mine is her first. I hadn’t joined the Atkinson party when Behind the Scenes at the Museum first came out. I shall be very interested to hear what you make of Transcription. I have to say that I wasn’t entirely convinced.

What a good idea to combine this with other commitments. I’ve just finished Transcription and was sadly disappointed having loved Atkinson so much in the past

Oh, I’m sorry to hear that about Transcription. We’ll have to swap notes once I’ve read it 😁

Very interested in Blood Orange after hearing about it on a podcast (What Page are you On). Sounds very gripping!

I loved Munich – he’s so great at bringing history to life, isn’t he? And I’d really like to read Transcription sometime – I have three of her Jackson Brodie series on my list. Enjoy your reading! 😀

I’ll bravely admit that the only book on your list I’m familiar with is Transcription, which I thought was very well done. I love Atkinson. I’ll have to familiarize myself with some of the others you have listed…more for the TBR! Good luck with the challenge!
