My Week in Books – 4th November ’18

MyWeekinBooks

New arrivals

None.  Yes, you read it right – none.  No shiny new books to show off but, on the other hand, no increase in the TBR pile.  Surely, this can only be a good thing?  (Repeat as necessary until you convince yourself….)

Blog posts

Tuesday –  I hosted a stop on the blog tour for Paris in the Dark by Robert Olen Butler, posting my review of this fantastic historical thriller set in WW1 Paris.  This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic was a Halloween/Creepy Freebie.  My list consisted of my favourite classic ghosts stories by the master of the genre, M. R. James.

Wednesday – Staying on the theme of WW1, I shared my review as part of the blog tour for The Glorious Dead by Tim Atkinson. Suitably for Halloween, I posted my review of Gothic Tales by Elizabeth Gaskell which was my book for the Classics Club #ccdare and the October theme of the BookBumClub. WWW Wednesday is the opportunity to share what I’ve just read, what I’m currently reading and what I plan to read next, and, let’s be honest, to have a good old nose around at what other bloggers are reading.

Thursday – Another blog tour and another review, this time of The Word for Freedom, an anthology of short stories celebrating one hundred years of women’s suffrage.  I also hosted a stop on the blog tour for Kate Ryder’s latest book, Cottage on a Cornish Cliff, and took part in the book blast for A Different Kind of Fire by Suanne Schafer.

Saturday – My last blog tour hosting duties for the week were for Miss Marley by Vanessa Lafaye, a prequel to A Christmas Carol.  Vanessa sadly passed away before she could finish the book so it has been completed by her friend and fellow author, Rebecca Mascull – although so seamless is the transition you definitely wouldn’t know unless you’d been told.   I also took part in the Six Degrees of Separation meme which this month started with Thackeray’s Vanity Fair.  As is my custom, I managed to include a few John Buchan books in my chain.

As always, thanks to everyone who has liked, commented on and/or shared my blog posts on social media this week.
